It's fascinating to think that many of the dioramas on display at the AMNH were created by prominent taxidermists from the turn of the century who were well connected to Teddy Roosevelt and the first modern conservationists (John Bell, in particular). It often has me thinking about how the modern understanding of conservationism is plagued by a purity politic incapable of considering a symbiotic relationship between humans and the nature they want to preserve.
